Smart TV box buying guide: will it work with your TV
A smart TV box, often called an Android TV box, plugs into a TV and adds apps like YouTube over Wi-Fi. Check two things before you buy.
1. Check your TV's ports
The box connects by HDMI, so look for a socket marked HDMI on the back or side of your TV. An older TV with only the red, white and yellow AV sockets needs a box with AV output or an HDMI-to-AV converter. Our Android TV box guide walks through the setup.
2. Read the labels: 8K, 5G, RAM and storage
On the TV98 8K Ultra HD 5G Android TV Box (RK3528), "5G" refers to 5 GHz Wi-Fi, not the mobile 5G network, so you'll need a dual-band router to use it. The 8K label can't make your TV sharper than its own resolution. Its 4GB of RAM gives apps more room than a 2GB box, and the 32GB of storage is for apps, since films and shows stream.

How do I set up a TV box?
Connect the box to the TV's HDMI socket and to power, switch the TV to that HDMI input, then join your Wi-Fi from the box's settings and add the apps you want. Our Android TV box guide covers the steps in more detail.
What does 5G mean on a TV box?
On a TV box, 5G is the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. It has nothing to do with mobile data, and the box can only use it if your router also broadcasts on 5 GHz.
