Asus Zenbook buying guide: generation, screen and RAM
Zenbook is Asus's thin and light range, for students and office workers who carry a laptop all day. The models here run from 11th gen Intel designs to the Zenbook 14 OLED with Core Ultra and Ryzen AI chips, so compare the processor generation, the screen and the RAM. For how Zenbook compares with Vivobook and the gaming ranges, see the Asus laptop buying guide on Asus laptop price in Nepal.
1. Newer or older generation
The newest models here are the Zenbook 14 UX3405CA-PZ593W-NP, with an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H, and the Zenbook 14 UM3406KA, with a Ryzen AI 5 340 or Ryzen AI 7 350. The UX3405M (Core Ultra 7 155H) and UM3406HA (Ryzen 7 8840HS) are the generation before. Models with 11th, 12th or 13th gen Intel chips, or Ryzen 5000 to 7000 U-series chips, are older designs. They still handle office work and study well and are worth comparing on price.
2. The NPU and AI features
An NPU is the part of the chip that runs AI tasks, such as background blur on video calls. Asus lists the Ryzen AI 5 340 and Ryzen AI 7 350 in the Zenbook 14 OLED UM3406 with an NPU of up to 50 TOPS, against 16 TOPS for the Ryzen 7 8840HS in the UM3406HA (Asus). On the Intel side, it lists the Core Ultra 7 255H at up to 13 TOPS and the Core Ultra 7 155H at up to 11 TOPS (Asus). Whether you need a big NPU is covered in our NPU guide.
3. Screen: 3K or WUXGA, 120Hz or 60Hz
Asus offers the Zenbook 14 OLED with a 2880 x 1800 (3K) screen at 120Hz or a 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) screen at 60Hz, with touch on some models (Asus). The names tell you which one you're getting: the UX3405CA-PZ593W-NP (a touch screen) and the UM3406KA models are 3K at 120Hz, while the UX3405M-QD229W has the WUXGA panel. 3K is sharper and 120Hz makes scrolling smoother. Older models such as the UM3402YA and UX3402ZA use IPS screens.
If you want to write on the screen or use it as a tablet, look at the Zenbook 14 Flip UP3404VA and Zenbook Flip 13 UX363EA, which fold back on a 360-degree hinge.
4. RAM is fixed, storage isn't
On the Zenbook 14 OLED, Asus's spec sheets put the memory on board, with a maximum equal to the amount already fitted, on both the Intel (UX3405) and AMD (UM3406) models. You can't add RAM later, so buy what you'll need for the next few years. Every Zenbook 14 OLED here already has 16GB. The SSD sits in a standard M.2 2280 slot, so it can be swapped for a bigger one later, though Asus notes that only single-sided drives fit.

Asus Zenbook FAQ
Is Asus Zenbook better than Vivobook?
For carrying around, yes. By Asus's figures, a Zenbook 14 OLED weighs 1.20 to 1.28 kg and has a 75 Wh battery, while the Vivobook Go 14 weighs 1.38 kg with a 42 Wh battery. If the laptop will mostly sit on a desk, compare a Vivobook with a similar processor before you decide.
Can I add RAM to a Zenbook later?
Not on the Zenbook 14 OLED. Asus lists its memory as on board, so what you buy is what you keep. For the older Zenbooks, the spec sheet for that exact model code will say whether there is a memory slot.
Which Zenbook has a touch screen?
Going by their names, the touch-screen models include the Zenbook 14 UX3405CA-PZ593W-NP, the Zenbook 14X Q420VA and the Zenbook 13 UM5302TA, all with OLED screens. The Zenbook 14 Flip UP3404VA and Zenbook Flip 13 UX363EA are 2-in-1s that fold back into a tablet.
Do you deliver Zenbooks outside Birtamode?
Yes. We usually deliver all over Nepal in 2 to 5 days, and delivery is free within 15 km on products over Rs 5,000.
