Who is Apple's authorised distributor in Nepal?
Official iPhones come into Nepal through Generation Next Communication Pvt Ltd (GenXT), which The Kathmandu Post described as Apple's authorised distributor in Nepal ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro series launch here on 1 October 2026. New Business Age called GenXT Apple's authorised importer and distributor when the iPhone 17 arrived in September 2025.
Apple first approved GenXT as its iPhone distributor in Nepal in December 2014 (The Kathmandu Post, 2014). An authorised reseller sells that official stock to you.
Why buy from an authorised Apple reseller?
Three things separate an official iPhone from a grey import, and all three matter after you leave the shop.
- Warranty you can use in Nepal. Apple's one-year limited warranty runs from the date of original retail purchase, and Apple can ask for proof of purchase. For iPhone, Apple says it may restrict warranty service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the phone (Apple warranty). A phone bought in Dubai or the US may not get service here.
- A VAT bill. It is your legal proof of purchase, and most service centres want it before they touch a warranty claim. Our guide explains why VAT bills and warranty matter.
- MDMS registration. Phones from official importers are registered in the Nepal Telecommunications Authority's MDMS before they are sold, so you don't have to do it yourself. See our MDMS registration guide.
How to check you're buying official stock
These checks work at any shop, including ours:
- Get a VAT bill with the shop's PAN/VAT number, the product details and the date. Ask for the serial number or IMEI to be written on it.
- Check the warranty yourself. On the iPhone, go to Settings, General, AppleCare & Warranty, or enter the serial number at checkcoverage.apple.com (Apple Support).
- Check MDMS. Dial *#06# for the IMEI and look it up on the NTA portal, as our MDMS guide shows.
- Compare the price. If one shop is far below everyone else, ask why. Our iPhone price list for Nepal shows current prices.
- Ask where the stock comes from. GenXT is Apple's authorised distributor in Nepal, so ask whether the phone came through GenXT.
What to check on an iPhone before you pay
Spend five minutes on these before you pay, even at a shop you trust.
- IMEI match. Dial *#06#. The number should match the box and the bill.
- A clean setup. A new or properly erased iPhone starts at the Hello screen. If it shows iPhone Locked to Owner or asks for someone else's Apple Account, it is still tied to that account. Apple's advice is not to take ownership of a used iPhone that is protected by Activation Lock (Apple Support).
- Parts and service history. On iOS 15.2 or later, Settings, General, About shows a Parts and Service History section only if the iPhone has been repaired. An Unknown part means it may be non-genuine or unverified (Apple Support). On a new phone, this section shouldn't be there.
- Warranty date. In Settings, General, AppleCare & Warranty, check when the coverage ends. If it ends much sooner than a year from the day you buy, ask the shop why before you pay.
