IME Pay in Nepal (2026): IME Pay Is Now Khalti by IME. What Changed and How to Switch
Updated 29 October 2026. Facts are from Nepal Rastra Bank, Khalti by IME’s own pages and Nepali news, with dates. Rules and fees change, so check the Khalti app before large transfers.
Short answer: IME Pay no longer runs as a separate wallet. It merged with Khalti, and since 17 July 2025 (Shrawan 1, 2082) the combined service has been called Khalti by IME, run by IME Khalti Ltd. IME Pay accounts had to be moved to Khalti by the end of Kartik 2082 (about mid-November 2025). To keep using your old IME Pay account, open the Khalti app and tap Merge with IME. IME remittance can now be received straight into Khalti through Receive Remittance.
What happened to IME Pay?
IME Digital Solution launched IME Pay in 2017. Khalti’s own history page says it reached 5 million users, and in 2023 it joined NEPALPAY QR along with Khalti and PrabhuPay. In February 2025 IME Pay and Khalti signed a merger agreement, Nepal Rastra Bank gave final approval in June 2025, and the joined service started on 17 July 2025 as Khalti by IME.
Both apps were to run side by side during a three-month switch-over so people could move their accounts. Nepal Rastra Bank’s list of licensed payment companies from mid-July 2026 shows only IME Khalti Ltd., with one wallet: Khalti. IME Pay is no longer on it.

How to move your IME Pay account to Khalti
If you still have money or a KYC-verified account on IME Pay, move it to Khalti like this:
- Install the Khalti app and open the login page.
- Tap Merge with IME.
- Enter your IME Pay number and password.
- Type the OTP sent to that number.
- Check that your name, ID document and date of birth match, then confirm.
| What moves to Khalti | What you need to redo |
|---|---|
| Wallet balance (added to your Khalti balance) | Bank links: IME Pay bank links expire, so link your bank again in Khalti |
| KYC details and Super Wallet status | Nothing, if your KYC was already verified on IME Pay or Khalti |
| IME Points (they join Khalti Points as Daaami Points) | After the merge, the old IME Pay account can no longer be opened |
Khalti’s help pages disagree on whether your old transaction history moves across, so save any IME Pay statements you need before you merge.

Under Nepal Rastra Bank’s 15th amendment to the payment directive, reported on 26 July 2026, wallet companies must check a Nepali citizen’s details against the National ID record before opening a wallet. Existing users who have a National ID had to add their NID number by the end of Ashwin 2083 (about mid-October 2026). If you haven’t done it, update it in the Khalti app.
Khalti by IME also works with NEPALPAY QR: Nepal Clearing House lists it among the apps that can scan and pay at NEPALPAY QR shops.
