Gaming laptop buying guide: graphics, processor and screen
The graphics card decides how well a laptop plays games, so start there. Then check how much power the maker gives it, and match the processor, screen and memory to it.
1. Start with the graphics card
A gaming laptop has a separate graphics card, usually an NVIDIA GeForce, and the product name tells you which one: look for GTX or RTX followed by a number. Within a generation, a higher number means a faster card: a 4060 is a step up from a 4050, and a 5060 from a 5050. A few laptops listed on this page have only built-in graphics, such as Intel Iris Xe. They're fine for study and office work but aren't built for gaming, so check the name for GTX or RTX before you buy.
Video memory matters for new games at high settings. NVIDIA lists the RTX 4050 with 6GB, the RTX 4060 and 4070 with 8GB, and the RTX 5050 and 5060 with 8GB of newer GDDR7. RTX 40 and 50 cards also support DLSS Frame Generation, which RTX 30 and 20 cards don't (NVIDIA). The product names here show 4GB on the RTX 2050 and on many RTX 3050 models. The older GTX 1650 and 1660 Ti don't support DLSS at all.
As a rough guide, a GTX 1650, RTX 2050 or RTX 3050 is entry level, fine for esports and older games at FHD. An RTX 4050, 5050 or 3060 runs most new games at FHD on medium settings. For high settings in new games, or a sharper screen, look at an RTX 4060, 5060 or 4070.
2. Check the graphics power, not just the name
The same card can run at very different power in different laptops. NVIDIA lists a power range of 35 to 115 W for the RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070, and 45 to 100 W for the RTX 5060 (NVIDIA). More power usually means more speed, so two laptops with the same card can perform differently. Makers usually list this as TGP or graphics power on the spec sheet, and thicker laptops with bigger coolers tend to run higher.
Power also drops on battery. NVIDIA's BatteryBoost turns on by itself when you start a game unplugged and regulates the card's performance to save power (NVIDIA). You can keep playing through a short power cut, but expect lower frame rates until the power comes back.
3. Pick the processor: H, HS or HX
Gaming laptops use performance processors, and the letters at the end tell you which kind. Intel describes H chips as highest performance, and HX chips as highest performance with every model unlocked (Intel). HX chips like the Core i7-14650HX and i9-14900HX help in games that lean on the processor, and when you stream or edit video, but they cost more and draw more power.
Most AMD chips in our gaming laptops are H or HS models, like the Ryzen 7 7435HS and Ryzen 7 8845HS. For most games, a mid-range H or HS processor with a stronger graphics card plays better than an HX processor with a weaker one.
4. Match the screen to the graphics card
A 144Hz screen can show up to 144 frames a second, so fast games look smoother than on a normal 60Hz screen. It only helps if the graphics card can produce that many frames. Most of our 15.6-inch gaming laptops are FHD (1920 × 1080) at 144Hz or 165Hz, like the Acer Nitro V15 (ANV15-51-529B) with an RTX 4050.
Many 16-inch models are WUXGA (1920 × 1200) or WQXGA (2560 × 1600). WQXGA has about twice the pixels of FHD, so it takes a stronger card to run new games at full resolution. The Asus ROG Strix G16 G614JIR pairs a 240Hz WQXGA screen with an RTX 4070. For the 15.6-inch range, see 15.6 inch laptop price in Nepal.
5. RAM, storage and heat
Get 16GB of RAM for gaming; many of the laptops here come with it. If you choose an 8GB model, like the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506NC-HN005W, check the spec sheet for a free RAM slot so you can add more later. Big games take a lot of space, and a 512GB SSD fills up after a few of them, so 1TB or a free second SSD slot is worth having.
Gaming laptops get hot under load. Use yours on a desk rather than a bed or your lap, keep the vents clear, and get the dust cleaned out of the fans from time to time. In a Terai summer, a cooling pad helps.

Gaming laptop FAQ
Which graphics card should I get in a gaming laptop?
Match it to the games you play. For esports and older titles, an entry-level card like the RTX 3050 does the job. For new releases at FHD, start at an RTX 4050 or 5050. For high settings or a WQXGA (2560 × 1600) screen, move up to an 8GB card like the RTX 4060, 5060 or 4070.
Is 8GB RAM enough for a gaming laptop?
It works, but 16GB is better for new games, especially with Discord or a browser open in the background. If you buy an 8GB model, check that it has a free slot for a second stick.
Can I play games on battery?
Yes, but the graphics card runs slower and the battery drains quickly. NVIDIA's BatteryBoost lets you set a target frame rate, so you can trade some smoothness for longer play (NVIDIA). Plug in when you want full performance.
Is a gaming laptop good for students or office work?
It can do both, and the extra power helps with coding, editing and 3D work. But it's heavier, the charger is bigger and the battery runs down faster than on an everyday laptop. If you'll carry it every day and don't play games, see 14 inch laptop price in Nepal.
Which gaming laptop brands do you sell?
Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Every price on this page is our current website price.
Do you deliver gaming laptops outside Birtamode?
Yes. We usually deliver all over Nepal in 2 to 5 days, and delivery is free within 15 km on products over Rs 5,000.
