Laptop stand buying guide: height, type, fit and ports
A laptop stand lifts the screen so you look ahead instead of down, and it lets air reach the underside of the laptop. This page also has tablet and phone stands and tripods, covered at the end.
1. Bring the screen up to eye level
OSHA's advice for any computer screen is to put the top line at or below eye level, 20 to 40 inches (50 to 100 cm) from your eyes (OSHA). A laptop flat on a desk sits well below that, which is why your neck ends up bent forward after a few hours.
Once the laptop is raised, its own keyboard is too high to type on comfortably, so pair the stand with a separate keyboard and mouse. You'll find both on keyboard price in Nepal and mouse price in Nepal.
2. Choose a folding, desk or rotating stand
A folding stand packs flat into a laptop bag. The UNITEK OT155SL folds down to 240 × 15 × 45 mm, weighs 231.4 g, has 6 tilt levels and comes with a carry bag (UNITEK). A desk stand that stays in one place is usually sturdier for daily use. The UNITEK OT180SL also has a base that rotates 360° (UNITEK), handy when you turn the screen to show someone across the desk.
3. Check the laptop size, weight and material
Stands list the laptop sizes and the weight they carry. UNITEK rates the OT180SL for 10 to 16 inch laptops and up to 4.4 kg (UNITEK). That covers most laptops, but check the weight on your laptop's spec sheet if it's a big gaming machine.
Aluminium stands, like the Fantech NS11 and the UNITEK models, stay firm when you type. A plastic stand is lighter but can wobble with a raised laptop on it.
4. Stands with a built-in USB-C hub
Two UNITEK stands double as a dock for a laptop with USB-C. The UNITEK D1109A has HDMI up to 4K at 60Hz, two 5Gbps USB-A ports, gigabit Ethernet and a USB-C power input rated for 100W PD. Its base rotates 360° and holds up to 6 kg (UNITEK).

5. Tablet stands, phone holders and tripods

How high should a laptop stand be?
High enough that the top line of the screen is at or below eye level, which is what OSHA recommends for any computer screen. Sit the way you normally do and adjust from there.
Do I need a keyboard and mouse with a laptop stand?
For long sessions, yes. A raised laptop puts its own keyboard at an awkward height, so most people pair a stand with a separate keyboard and mouse.
Does a laptop stand help keep a laptop cool?
An open stand lets air reach the bottom of the laptop, which helps compared with a flat desk or a bed. For more cooling, a cooling pad with fans does more.
Will a laptop stand hold a 16 inch or gaming laptop?
Check the size and weight the maker lists. UNITEK rates the OT180SL for 10 to 16 inch laptops and up to 4.4 kg, and the D1109A for up to 6 kg.
