Sony raised PS5 prices again in 2026
On 27 March 2026 Sony announced new prices for the PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal from 2 April 2026, citing “continued pressures in the global economic landscape”. It was the second rise in under a year: in the US the PS5 had already gone from $499.99 to $549.99 in August 2025.
| Console | US | UK | Europe | Japan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | $649.99 | £569.99 | €649.99 | ¥97,980 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 | £519.99 | €599.99 | ¥89,980 |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 | £789.99 | €899.99 | ¥137,980 |
| PlayStation Portal | $249.99 | £219.99 | €249.99 | ¥39,980 |
Southeast Asia got new prices from 1 May 2026 (for example MYR 2,799 for the PS5 in Malaysia and THB 20,990 in Thailand). Sony’s posts do not mention Nepal or South Asia. In India, the disc PS5 was reported at INR 69,990 in July 2026, based on a retailer listing; Sony India had not officially announced that change.
PS5, PS5 Digital or PS5 Pro: which should you buy?
| Model | Disc drive | What stands out | US price from 2 Apr 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 (Slim) Disc Edition | Built in | Plays game discs, including second-hand ones. The Slim Disc Edition has 1TB of storage. | $649.99 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | None (Sony sells a detachable drive, $79.99) | Cheaper, but games must be downloaded unless you add the drive. | $599.99 |
| PS5 Pro | None in the box (same detachable drive) | 2TB SSD, 67% more GPU compute units, up to 45% faster rendering and up to 3x faster ray tracing than the PS5, plus PSSR AI upscaling (Sony’s figures). | $899.99 |
For most players in Nepal the Disc Edition makes the most sense: discs can be bought, swapped and resold locally, and you avoid paying for every game online. The PS5 Pro is worth it mainly if you play on a 4K TV and want the sharper picture and smoother frame rates.

Before you buy a PS5 in Nepal
- Warranty: we could not find a confirmed authorised PlayStation distributor in Nepal. NepaHima Trade Link is Sony’s authorised distributor for its electronics (2018), but we found nothing linking it to PlayStation. Ask the shop in writing what its warranty covers and for how long.
- Paying for games online: Nepali prepaid dollar cards, such as Machhapuchchhre Bank’s Smart Dollar Card, allow international online payments of up to USD 500 a year, including subscriptions. Physical discs avoid this limit.
- Price check: because Sony changed prices in April 2026, compare quotes from two or three shops before you pay.
