NVIDIA unveiled the RTX 50 (Blackwell) cards at CES on 6 January 2025. These are US launch prices before import duty and VAT, so they are not Nepal prices. RTX 50 laptops use the same names but carry less VRAM than the desktop cards: for example, the laptop RTX 5070 has 8GB.
Why graphics cards cost more in 2026
Graphics cards and RAM use the same kind of memory chips that AI data centres are buying in huge numbers. TweakTown tied the uncertainty around NVIDIA’s rumoured RTX 50 Super cards to “severe DRAM and GDDR7 memory shortages driven by AI industry demand” and said desktop DDR5 prices had roughly doubled. Reports from November 2025 to January 2026 said the Super cards were delayed, and KitGuru reported they could be “indefinitely postponed, and potentially cancelled”; NVIDIA has not confirmed any Super models. Is a laptop RTX 5070 the same as a desktop RTX 5070?
No. Laptop RTX 50 GPUs carry less VRAM: the laptop RTX 5070 has 8GB versus 12GB on the desktop card.
