WD10PURZ questions
What speed (RPM) does it spin at?
WD's data sheet doesn't give an RPM for the WD10PURZ. WD says standard WD Purple drives run at 5400 or 5640 RPM, depending on the model.
How fast does it transfer data?
WD gives a maximum interface transfer rate of 110MB/s (host to/from drive) for the WD10PURZ, on a SATA 6 Gb/s interface. WD says this is based on its internal testing and that performance may vary with the host device and usage conditions.
Is it for AI-enabled recorders?
WD doesn't list AI support for the WD10PURZ. It describes the drive as built for mainstream surveillance, and links AI workloads to its AI-capable WD Purple models rated 360TB a year. This drive is rated 180TB a year.
Will it work in my DVR?
It's a 3.5-inch SATA drive for DVR and NVR systems with up to 8 drive bays. Check that your recorder takes 3.5-inch SATA drives, or ask us with your recorder model.
WD's product pages now list the WD11PURZ as the 1TB WD Purple. WD's November 2025 WD Purple data sheet still lists the WD10PURZ, and most figures on this page come from its WD10PURZ column. The camera-stream basis, the MTBF wording and the RPM answer come from WD's product page.
WD's data sheet prints the MTBF as "10,00,000" hours; WD's product page gives up to 1 million hours. WD says MTBF is a statistical estimate under typical conditions (90TB/year workload, 40 °C drive temperature), doesn't predict an individual drive's reliability and isn't a warranty.
Specifications checked against WD Purple surveillance hard drive data sheet, November 2025 (Western Digital) and WD Purple SATA HDD product page and FAQ (Western Digital USA) on 4 November 2026.
