Biometric device buying guide: fingerprint or face, and capacity

1. Fingerprint only, or face and fingerprint
The Secureye S-B8CB and ZKTeco K40 read fingerprints. Secureye gives the S-B8CB a 600 dpi optical sensor, and it also accepts an ID card, a password or a combination (Secureye). An optical sensor reads the finger through a small glass window, so wipe it now and then; dust and scratches on the glass cause failed reads.
The ZKTeco MB2000 is multi-biometric, and its product page lists face as well as fingerprint. That helps where fingerprints are hard to read, such as staff who work with their hands or come in with wet or dusty fingers, because they can check in by face instead.
2. Capacity and connections
Count everyone who'll use the device and leave room for new staff. Secureye gives the S-B8CB 1,000 users and 100,000 log records, with TCP/IP and USB connections (Secureye). It's worth enrolling two fingers for each person, so a cut or a plaster on one finger doesn't stop them checking in. Connected to your office network by cable, the device can pass its logs to the attendance software on a computer; Secureye says the S-B8CB's software is included, as a download from its website (Secureye).
