iPhone 14 Pro Max buying guide: big screen, 3x zoom and the alternatives
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the bigger of the two iPhone 14 Pro models, at 6.7 inches. It's for people who want a big screen, a 3x zoom camera and long battery life.
1. What you get with the iPhone 14 Pro Max
The A16 Bionic chip powers it, and there are three cameras on the back: 48MP main, 12MP ultra wide and 12MP 3x telephoto (Apple). The 6.7-inch screen has the Dynamic Island, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and an Always-On mode. Video playback is rated at up to 29 hours.
The trade-off is weight: with its stainless steel frame, it's 240 g. Charging is through Lightning.
2. iPhone 14 Pro Max or another model
The iPhone 14 Pro has the same cameras and screen features in a 6.1-inch size, at 206 g with up to 23 hours of video playback (Apple). The standard iPhone 14, also 6.1-inch, has two 12MP cameras and no telephoto (Apple). The iPhone 15 Pro Max is lighter at 221 g and adds a 5x telephoto, USB-C and a titanium frame (Apple). It also runs Apple Intelligence (Apple). All three iPhone 14 models are on the iPhone 14 series page.

iPhone 14 Pro Max FAQ
How much storage should I get on the iPhone 14 Pro Max?
Apple made it in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB versions, and storage can't be added later. Apple limits ProRes recording on the 128GB model to 1080p, so 4K ProRes needs 256GB or more (Apple). If you don't shoot ProRes and your photos back up to the cloud, 128GB is enough.
Does the iPhone 14 Pro Max come with a charger?
No. Apple includes a USB-C to Lightning cable but leaves out the power adapter. With a 20W or higher USB-C adapter, Apple quotes about 50% in 35 minutes, a little slower than the 14 Pro's 30 (Apple). See our iPhone chargers and cables guide for adapters.
Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max water resistant?
Yes, to a point. Apple rates it IP68 under IEC 60529, tested to a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes. That resistance isn't permanent and can drop with normal wear (Apple), so treat it as protection against rain and spills rather than a reason to take it swimming.
