What has changed since our last update

Four claims from the earlier rumour cycle no longer hold, and we have corrected them here.

1.   There is no 200MP camera. Supply-chain reporting points to a triple 48MP system with a variable aperture main lens, not a jump to 200 megapixels.

2.   Under-display Face ID is not happening this year. The technology is reportedly not ready. The Dynamic Island may shrink, but the sensors stay where they are.

3.   The Pro models are aluminium, not titanium. Apple moved the Pro line to an anodised aluminium unibody with the iPhone 17 Pro and is expected to keep it.

4.   Prices are rising, not holding. Apple confirmed in June 2026 that increases on the next Pro models are unavoidable because of memory component costs. This is the biggest single change to our Nepal estimates.

iPhone 18 launch date in Nepal

Apple has held its iPhone keynote in the first two weeks of September every year since 2012, and the iOS 27 beta cycle that began at WWDC in June has stayed on schedule. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman points at Tuesday 8 September. Other trackers argue for Wednesday 9 September, since Apple avoids scheduling immediately after Labor Day. Pre-orders would open that Friday, with global retail availability around 18 September.

When will the iPhone 18 come to Nepal?

The clearest guide is what happened last cycle. The iPhone 17 went on sale globally on 19 September 2025 and reached Nepali shelves on 26 September 2025 — exactly one week later. Generation Next, Apple’s authorised importer and distributor in Nepal, had originally planned a 10 to 12 October unveiling but fast-tracked the launch at short notice.

Applying the same one-week gap to a global on-sale date of 18 September 2026 gives a realistic iPhone 18 release date in Nepal of around 25 September 2026. Treat that as the best case rather than a guarantee: the distributor’s own default plan last year was three weeks out, so early October remains possible if stock allocation is tight. High-demand configurations such as the Pro Max 256GB typically take longer to reach full availability regardless.

The foldable is a separate timeline. Several analysts expect Apple to announce it in September but ship it later, the same staggered approach used for the iPhone X in 2017. Manufacturing complexity and reported hinge quality issues are limiting early production. Assume the foldable reaches Nepal well after the Pro models, possibly towards the end of 2026.

iPhone 18 series price in Nepal: full expected price list

Apple has not announced global or Nepali pricing. The estimates below are built from three inputs: the analyst range for US pricing, the current USD to NPR rate of roughly 154, and the landed markup observable on iPhone 17 Pro models actually selling in Nepal today.

These are estimated launch prices, not quotations. Official Nepali pricing is confirmed only when authorised resellers receive stock.

How we calculated these prices

We do not guess. Every figure above comes from the same three-step calculation, which we back-tested against the iPhone 15, 16 and 17 launches in Nepal:

•     Step 1. Take Apple’s expected US launch price for that configuration.

•     Step 2. Convert at the current USD to NPR rate of 154.

•     Step 3. Apply a landed markup of 1.42x to cover customs duty, the new green tax, VAT, distributor margin and retail margin.

Worked example for the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB at a $1,099 base price: 1,099 x 154 x 1.42 = Rs 2,40,300. At a $1,299 base price the same calculation gives Rs 2,84,100. That is the range in the table.

The 1.42x figure is not arbitrary. It is what the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max actually landed at in Nepal relative to their US prices, and we apply it consistently across every model including the foldable, because Nepal’s duty and VAT are charged as a percentage of value rather than as a flat fee.

Reality check against current prices

The iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB currently sells in Nepal at around Rs 2,57,999, and the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB at around Rs 2,20,999. Any iPhone 18 estimate that lands below those figures is not credible. Expect the 18 Pro Max to open above where the 17 Pro Max sits today.

iPhone 18 Pro price in Nepal

The 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro is the entry point into this year’s lineup, and with no standard iPhone 18 until spring 2027, it is the cheapest new iPhone you will be able to buy in Nepal this autumn.

US pricing is genuinely uncertain. Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu both argue Apple will hold the $1,099 starting price to protect market share and absorb the memory cost itself. JP Morgan expects at least $100 more, and IDC expects up to $200 more. Our Nepal range of Rs 2,40,000 to Rs 2,85,000 for the 256GB model spans both outcomes.

If Apple holds pricing flat, expect roughly Rs 2.40 lakh. If Apple passes the full memory increase through, Rs 2.85 lakh is realistic.

iPhone 18 Pro Max cost in Nepal

The 6.9-inch Pro Max is the model most Nepali buyers actually search for, and it is where the price increase will bite hardest. Expect Rs 2,60,000 to Rs 3,05,000 for the 256GB variant, with the 1TB configuration plausibly approaching Rs 3.95 lakh.

Two things drive the Pro Max premium beyond screen size: a larger battery, and the fact that Apple’s most expensive configurations carry the heaviest storage cost in a year when NAND flash pricing has surged. IDC’s own analysis notes that Pro Max buyers are the least price-sensitive segment, which is exactly why Apple is comfortable raising prices there.

iPhone Fold price in Nepal, also called iPhone Ultra

Apple’s first foldable is the reason this launch matters, and it will be the most expensive phone ever sold in Nepal through official channels.

Analyst estimates for US pricing vary widely. UBS suggests $1,800 to $2,000. Kuo and Gurman say $2,000 to $2,500. Fubon Research says $2,400. IDC expects an average selling price near $2,500, with some configurations up to $3,000. Storage is expected in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB tiers.

Applied to Nepal at the same 1.42x markup, that puts the iPhone Fold price in Nepal at roughly Rs 4.35 lakh at the absolute floor, and around Rs 5.45 lakh at the top of the analyst range for 256GB. The 512GB model would sit near Rs 5.70 lakh.

A note on the name: the press has called this the iPhone Fold throughout the rumour cycle, but Apple is unlikely to use a name that close to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. Multiple reports now point to iPhone Ultra, without an 18 in the name. Search for both.

Why iPhone prices are rising in Nepal in 2026

1. The global memory shortage

AI data centre demand has pulled DRAM and NAND production capacity away from consumer devices. Contract prices for conventional DRAM rose roughly 90 to 95 percent in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Cost models cited by the Wall Street Journal suggest the same 12GB memory package that cost Apple around $39 in the iPhone 17 Pro could cost close to $145 in the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple has already raised Mac and iPad prices in 2026, and Tim Cook has publicly said iPhone increases are unavoidable.

Nepali buyers are already living with this. iPhone 17 Pro Max pricing here has been revised upward more than once since launch, which is the opposite of the normal mid-cycle pattern.

2. Nepal’s new green tax on smartphones

The FY 2083/84 budget, presented on 15 Jestha 2083 (29 May 2026), introduced a 5 percent green tax on smartphones, effective from Shrawan 01, 2083. The green tax replaces the excise duty previously charged on these items rather than stacking on top of it, so the net effect is smaller than the headline number suggests. Still, on a device in the Rs 2.5 lakh bracket, even a small shift in the tax stack moves the shelf price by thousands of rupees. Smartwatches took a heavier hit at 15 percent, and headphones and earphones now carry 10 percent.

3. The rupee

The USD to NPR rate has moved from roughly 144 in January 2026 to around 154 in July. That alone adds close to 7 percent to the landed cost of anything imported and priced in dollars, before tax or margin.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max specifications

A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process

The headline upgrade is Apple’s first 2-nanometre chip, built by TSMC. Estimates point to roughly 15 percent more speed and around 30 percent better efficiency than the A19. More interesting than the raw numbers is the packaging. Apple is expected to use wafer-level multi-chip module technology, which places the RAM on the same wafer as the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine instead of alongside it. That means faster memory access for on-device Apple Intelligence work and a smaller chip footprint, freeing internal space for battery. Both Pro models are expected to carry 12GB of RAM.

Variable aperture camera

The main camera is expected to gain a physical, mechanically adjustable aperture, a genuine first for iPhone. Instead of simulating shallow depth of field in software, the lens itself opens and closes to control light intake, giving real optical control over exposure and background separation. The telephoto is also rumoured to get a wider aperture, and at least one Pro model may use a new three-layer stacked sensor from Samsung for better dynamic range and lower noise.

Display, design and colours

Sizes are unchanged at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches. Apple is expected to move to an upgraded LTPO+ panel that is more power efficient than the display in the 17 Pro. The Dynamic Island is widely reported to shrink, with one leaker claiming around 35 percent narrower, although at least one supply-chain source argues it stays the same size this generation. Externally the phones will look close to the 17 Pro, with a slightly thicker camera plateau on the Pro Max.

Colours are the most visible change. Dark cherry, a deep red with a purple tint, is the expected new signature finish, alongside light blue, dark grey and silver.

C2 modem and battery

Apple’s second-generation in-house modem replaces Qualcomm silicon, adds mmWave support, and brings a privacy feature that limits how precisely mobile networks can locate a device. Apple is also expected to support non-terrestrial 5G networks, opening the door to broader satellite connectivity. Regulatory filings point to around 4,288 mAh in the iPhone 18 Pro, a modest increase over the 17 Pro that should translate into better real-world endurance once 2nm efficiency gains are added.

Foldable iPhone specifications

•     Displays: roughly 5.5 inches closed, around 7.8 inches open, slightly smaller than an iPad mini, with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

•     Thickness: potentially as thin as 4.5mm unfolded, which would make it Apple’s thinnest device to date.

•     Crease: reported to be under 0.15mm deep and nearly invisible, achieved with a liquid metal hinge, ultra-thin glass and new adhesive technology.

•     Build: a titanium and aluminium frame. Titanium for stress-bearing structure, aluminium for heat dissipation and weight.

•     Biometrics: no Face ID. There is no room for the TrueDepth array, so Apple returns to a side-mounted Touch ID button like the iPad.

What is not launching in September 2026

Apple is splitting the iPhone 18 generation across two windows for the first time. The affordable half of the lineup moves to spring 2027.

iPhone 18 vs iPhone 17: should you upgrade or buy now?

Buy an iPhone 17 or 17 Pro now if you need a phone within the next three months, you are on an iPhone 13 or older, or your budget caps out around Rs 2.2 lakh. Current-generation pricing is known, stock is available, and cashback offers of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 have been running at authorised resellers. Given the component-cost environment, waiting is not guaranteed to save money. iPhone 17 Pro Max pricing in Nepal has gone up during this cycle, not down.

Wait for the iPhone 18 Pro if the variable aperture camera or the 2nm chip genuinely matters to your work, you are comfortable with a Rs 2.6 lakh-plus budget, and you can hold out until October or later for local stock.

Wait for the foldable if price is not the deciding factor. Expect limited early supply, a long wait for Nepali availability, and a first-generation product. One study also suggests foldables in this class depreciate heavily in the first year.
